When to have the ICIM Medics Breast Assessment
1 - WHEN ! … You don’t feel anything but yet you would like to have a breast assessment done!
Even if you don’t feel you have any breast problems, doing the ICIM Breast Assessment can help ease your mind so you can concentrate on your daily life. Especially if you are under 50 years old your situation is not advisable for mammography due to risk of radiation. In all cases Doctor’s should use the risk/benefit equation where in your case the risk, (the radiation) outweighs the benefit. That is the reason why ICIM Breast Assessment is so important for you, there are no risks of radiation and you can do it many times as needed. In many cases it is more than 98% accurate compared to the standard mammogram alone. It is truly peace of mind!
2 - WHEN ! … You are concerned of family history of breast cancer!
If you are concerned that your mother had breast cancer or your aunt or any one else in your family had breast cancer then the ICIM Breast Assessment is ideal for you. The reason is that the ICIM Breast Assessment has a comprehensive medical questionnaire that will help to evaluate your risks of developing breast cancer and also a full breast assessment so you know better where you are. If you are concerned about having breast cancer because someone in your family has or had breast cancer you can do your ICIM Breast Assessment safely every year or so. It is a really good way to stay ahead of the game!
3 - WHEN ! … You have pain in the breast and that worries you!
Especially if you are under fifty years of age, very commonly pain in the breast leads to worry and anxiety. Most people with pain somewhere in the breast (mastalgia) go to the doctor where the Doctor may say – ‘there is nothing wrong, I cannot find any lump! Or perhaps send you to a consultant. (if you don’t have a doctor or you would like another doctor’s opinion please click here). By the end of the day the worrying sensation is still there and you are not less anxious about it. In some cases patients under 50` with breast pain end up doing a mammogram where the results are often negative but now the exposure to radiation could contribute to develop breast cancer. The ICIM Breast Assessment was designed (for any age) especially for the under fifties and if you are experiencing any breast discomfort it is important to have the assessment done. In most cases pain in the breast is related to hormonal imbalances, injury, lymph nodes, breast size, dilated blood vessels and angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels). So if you are worrying about breast pain, make an appointment for the ICIM Breast Assessment and let our doctor help you identify the cause of the pain. NOTE: Breast pain can also be the early sign of breast cancer formation.
4 - WHEN ! … You do have pain in the breast(s), yet you are under 50 years of age and not eligible for the National Breast Cancer Program!
This kind of situation is becoming more and more common but Ireland is not yet prepared to deal with patients acquiring breast care under the age of 50. The National Breast Cancer Program is designed to work with patients over 50 and symptomatic. This means you must have a breast problem and be more than half a century old in order to qualify for a Mammogram! Did you know that by the time a tumour is spotted in the mammogram it is likely that the tumour has been there for at least 5 years? The ICIM Breast Assessment can help to identify early signs of breast cancer many years before it can be seen in a standard mammogram in Ireland. Therefore if you have any sensation in the breast area rather than wait until you are 50 years old, please do your health a favour and contact ICIM for your Breast Assessment, you will have a better chance of early detection. And remember, early detection is the only way to prevent complications with breast cancer!
5 - WHEN ! … You can feel a lump in the Breast!
If you feel a lump in the breast you should not worry unnecessary. In the majority of cases lump in the breast is related to benign cyst. Your doctor may find this lump but will not know if it is benign or malignant. So you are referred to a consultant that may suggest a mammography where the results are often all clear or a biopsy is suggested. More than 70% of people having biopsy result in benign cyst and by the time you got the all clear several months have passed and many days of worry and anxiety too!
When you do the ICIM Breast Assessment a comprehensive investigation is performed and you are informed during consultation the chances of the lump being benign or malignant. Knowing as soon as possible if the lump is benign or malignant increases your chances to act fast so it increases your chances to win the battle against breast cancer. If the lump is benign we can monitor it so you can live your life without fear and in control. If is malignant you already have done all the hard work, so you can bring your ICIM Breast Assessment report to your doctor (if you don’t have a doctor click here) where you should receive all the treatment program options you need. So, any lump big or small you should have the ICIM Breast Assessment. With no risks of radiation and professionally designed for you this assessment will help you all the way!
6 – WHEN ! … You are afraid of the risks of radiation from mammograms!
You are not the only one; neither are you wrong by being concerned about being exposed to radiation. Scientists have connected the radiation exposure of the mammogram with the radiation exposed during the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic Bomb!
In reality you need to observe a very simple but vital rule; the risk/benefit equation. If you have breast cancer just behind the nipple for example the benefit of a mammogram can be higher than the risks because it is a difficult area for other diagnostic tools to see behind the nipple. But if you are under 50 and have no symptoms of breast problems then the risk of having a mammogram is significantly higher. The ICIM Breast Assessment is your best choice, it does not use diagnostic equipment that emits radiation and in many cases it is more accurate than mammograms. So remember, before you get expose to radiation do your risk assessment (risk / benefit equation).
7 - WHEN ! … You have Breast Cancer and you want to monitor it and see if a tumour is still moving around your body!
Here at ICIM you have the opportunity to monitor the breast after breast cancer by using safe and reliable medical equipment. In the case of mastectomy (a radical operation that removes your breast) a mammogram can not be applied and for the ones exposed to radiation to monitor breast cancer they are in fact increasing their chances to develop it! After Breast cancer your chances in developing liver cancer or bone cancer are increased significantly so you need to monitor it regularly.
So, how would you know if a breast cancer has spread to another location in your body? The answer is by blood tests and medical examinations. There are several blood tests (many of which is new to Ireland) that can help you!
The ICIM Breast Assessment can monitor Breast Cancer treatment effectively using sophisticated technology and the latest blood tests so your doctor can be kept informed of your progress. (if you do not have a doctor or would like another opinion please click here) I believe that if you have a doctor that is truly interested in your health and with the ICIM Breast Assessment, your chances to survive breast cancer are a lot better than doing nothing about it.
